A Simple Skincare Routine for Sri Lanka's Hot, Humid Climate
Heavy creams and thick serums don't work in our heat. Here's a lightweight 4-step routine that actually holds up in Colombo's weather.
Sri Lanka's heat and humidity means most skincare routines built for colder climates simply don't work here. Heavy moisturisers clog pores, and thick SPF leaves a white cast in the sun. Here's what actually works.
The 4-step routine
- Gentle gel cleanser — removes sweat and sunscreen without stripping moisture
- Lightweight niacinamide serum — controls excess oil, fades dark spots (we all have sun damage)
- Water-based gel moisturiser — hydrates without the greasy finish
- Broad-spectrum SPF 50 — non-negotiable near the equator
What to skip
Skip heavy oils, occlusive balms, and anything with a 'rich cream' label for daytime. Save those for the AC at night if at all. Less is genuinely more in a tropical climate.
Tip: Look for: products labelled 'oil-free', 'non-comedogenic', and 'gel formula'. Korean skincare tends to nail the lightweight texture game.
Consistency beats expensive products every time. A simple routine you follow daily will outperform a 10-step luxury routine you abandon in a week.
